Description

Betel leaf popularly known as “Paan” is a perennial herb vine with deep green & heart shaped leaves. It can climb as high as 10-15ft.  The heart-shaped leaves are marvelously pungent and spicy. Its waxy green, heart-shaped plant leaves are used for medicinal and culinary purposes.

It is grown to climb up a tree or fence during the summer or trained to spill over the edge of a pot in a hanging basket. It proliferates but appears to grow most quickly within the warm temperatures and long days of summer.

Environment

Betel leaf prefers a semi-shade position. It makes a good under storey plant. It can be grown in a wide range of soils such as sandy loam, heavy clayey loam. Light medium sandy loam soil rich in organic matter, and with adequate drainage, is suitable for its cultivation.

Betel needs constantly moist soil, but there should not be excessive moisture. Irrigation is frequent and light, and standing water should not remain for more than half an hour. It does not tolerate high rainfall or waterlogged conditions. Land should be raised by 5 to 10 cm from the adjacent areas and soil should be prepared by 4 to 5 ploughings, providing proper drainage.

Regular feeding and watering will keep it growing very lush. Although betel leaf is considered a tropical to subtropical plant, it will adapt to cold conditions if given a warm spot in winter, and could be grown in a large pot, and shifted to a cosy position in the cold months of the year.

The plant requires support to grow, which can be provided by raising wooden stakes or trellis . Being a large twiner, it needs a host to twine and covers the host in a very short period. If the stem cuttings with aerial roots are thrown over trees, they start growing and strike roots in the ground.

Landscape Uses

Ideal & a very useful herb to be grown in the garden.

Sturdy aggressive chew toy.
Color: Green
Sturdy aggressive chewing dog toy. My 8 year old Rott loved it. Non-stop chewing for 1st day. Usually only buy her Kong toys, and based on reviews decided to try this one. Great product.

Not really indestructible if it’s plastic
Color: Green, Color: Green
We received this toy yesterday evening and in about 10 mins of giving it to my dog(Labrador) He was able to bite into the plastic parts. I had to take it away from him. So this product is not for aggressive chewers. In fact any dog small or big can bite into the plastic parts. Now when my dog plays with toys he focuses more on the ends of the toy if he deems it to be a chew toy. So he hasn’t gone to the squeaky part yet as I had to take it away from him.

Dearly departed
Color: Green, Color: Green
This toy lasted two sessions. Two. Sessions. I don't really fault the toy. I fault the dipstick in the donut suit. Our dog did love this toy. He did look extremely cute carrying a caterpillar around. We did worry about property damage when he would joyfully toss the toy. I find the claim of "indestructible" to be exaggerated. We had some very tense minutes when we couldn't find the caterpillar's head. We kept looking at dog ingress points and dog eggress points with more and more worry. He did NOT swallow the head, it had rolled under a piece of furniture. He is blissfully unaware of how lucky he is. If he was half his size, this would have been a marvelous toy.

Chew toy that holds up to aggressive chewers
Color: Green
Bought this for my 85 lb aggressive chewer. She loves this toy and gnaws on it constantly. My only complaint is that she likes to bring it to bed with her and I have to listen to "chomp, chomp, chomp" while falling asleep!

It lasts!!!!
Color: Green
My dog LOVES this toy! He's a very aggressive chewer and so far this is the only toy that has lasted him. My guess is that he will eventually destroy it, but not for a very long time. He chews it so much that it gets "spikey" from all the chewing, but so far it's the only toy I gave found that lasts him. I've replaced it once because it gets yucky looking after all the chewing but that's my choice. I definitely recommend thus one for an aggressive chewer!
